How to rebalance cleaned stems before the final mix

AI artifact removal already separates a track so it can clean vocals, drums, bass, and other appropriately. Rebalance makes a practical use of that stage: instead of rebuilding the track immediately, The Refiner can pause and let you audition the cleaned stems together before the final mix is rendered.

This is mix control, not a miniature DAW. There are four relative-level faders and a focused vocal-reverb section. You can correct a vocal that sits too far forward, lift drums that lost impact, tuck the other stem, or add a small amount of space around the vocal without opening a full production session.

Rebalance and Stem separation are different workflows

Rebalance lives inside an Enhanced job with AI artifact removal. Its working stems are temporary and are summed back into one finished mix. You do not download those stems.

1. Select AI artifact removal and Rebalance stems

Start an Enhanced refinement, turn on AI artifact removal, then enable Rebalance stems. The cleaner prepares the four working stems and pauses before the final mix. Rebalance is available on Pro and Studio and adds no extra credit beyond the processing already selected.

Rebalance starts off for every new submission and is not remembered as a preference. Turn it on deliberately for each batch you want to pause.

If you leave Rebalance off, the normal cleanup and Finalize path runs straight through without stopping for a stem mix.

2. Preview the stems as one mix

Choose Preview mix and listen to vocals, drums, bass, and other together. The preview is an audition of the current controls, not a downloadable final render. Move one fader at a time and listen in context rather than judging an isolated stem.

The browser audition is approximate. The final render starts from the lossless stem checkpoints and uses server-side output protection, so its level and dynamics can differ slightly. When selected, Humanizer processes the rebalanced mix next, and Finalize runs last. Those stages are not included in this preview.

Each level is independent: raising drums does not intentionally turn every other stem down. The four stems still have to fit inside one output, however, so positive gains can trigger output protection to preserve headroom. Judge the relative balance, not just the loudness of one slider movement.

3. Add vocal reverb only where it helps

The reverb is a curated convolution effect applied to the vocal stem only. The amount control is deliberately limited to a practical mixing range. Start low: reverb is usually most convincing when it supports the vocal without announcing itself.

Advanced controls let you choose a style and set pre-delay. Pre-delay leaves a short gap before the reverb arrives, which can keep the dry words clear while the tail adds depth behind them.

4. Shape the wet return with Low cut and High cut

Low cut removes low frequencies from the wet reverb return. Raise it when the tail adds rumble or low-mid buildup. Its minimum position is Off.

High cut softens high frequencies in the wet return. Lower it when the tail feels too bright, splashy, or separate from the track. Both filters affect the reverb only; the dry vocal stays unchanged.

5. Render and continue the refinement

When the balance works, choose Render final mix. The Refiner applies the selected levels and vocal-reverb settings, rebuilds the track, and resumes the job. Humanizer, when selected, processes that mix first. Finalize, when selected, is the last audio-processing stage.

Working stems and audition previews stay private and are deleted after final rendering. The source and finished files remain available under the normal 7-day retention period.

Closing the mixer does not discard the waiting mix or continue it automatically. The refinement remains at Rebalance ready so you can reopen the mixer from your dashboard and render when you are ready.

A restrained starting point

Begin with every stem at 0 dB and reverb off. Fix the largest balance problem first, then make smaller moves. Add reverb last, check the Low cut for buildup and the High cut for excessive brightness, and compare against Reset before rendering. Small changes are usually enough.

The four stems are summed back into one mix. Raising one can push that sum toward clipping, so output protection may manage peaks to preserve headroom while keeping the requested relative balance.
