How to fix Suno hiss and metallic sound

“Hiss” is a useful search word, but it covers several different faults. One Suno track may have a steady noise floor between phrases; another may have a metallic shimmer that follows every cymbal hit; a third may sound smeared only when the arrangement gets dense. Those problems do not respond to the same treatment.

Four problems listeners often call Suno hiss
- Steady broadband hiss: a mostly constant “shhh” that remains audible during pauses. This behaves like a conventional noise floor and is the clearest candidate for conservative denoising.
- Metallic shimmer or warble: a moving, watery edge around vocals, cymbals, and reverb tails. Because it changes with the music, a static EQ cut rarely removes it cleanly.
- Codec haze or smear: transients lose shape and busy passages turn splashy or phasey. Repeated lossy exports can make this worse even when the file is later converted to WAV.
- Clipping or aggressive sibilance: sharp crackle on peaks, or piercing “s” sounds in the vocal. This needs peak repair or targeted vocal work; it is not the same as a continuous noise bed.
A quick diagnosis before processing
- Listen to a quiet intro, pause, or reverb tail on headphones. A fault that stays constant when the music stops is more likely to be steady noise.
- Replay cymbals, breathy vocals, and dense choruses. Texture that moves with those elements points toward decoder or codec instability.
- Turn the monitor level down. If the “better” version only wins because it is louder, the comparison is not telling you whether the texture improved.
- Keep the original download. Do not create a chain of MP3-to-WAV-to-MP3 conversions while testing fixes.

A repair order that avoids making the problem louder
1. Begin with the best original file available
If the platform offers a lossless or higher-quality download, start there. A WAV container does not automatically mean the signal inside has more usable detail, and converting an MP3 to WAV does not reconstruct discarded audio. What matters is avoiding another lossy generation before repair.
2. Restore first, then clean the model output
For full-mix Enhanced and Flow Matching jobs, The Refiner deliberately runs the restoration model first and applies AI-artifact cleanup afterward. Earlier cleaner-first tests could make the restoration model interpret attenuated high frequencies as missing codec detail and fabricate grain while “repairing” it. The current order lets cleanup work on the model output instead. You can refine a Suno track with this model-first workflow.
If you are working with an already-separated vocal stem, the dedicated vocal de-mush workflow is more targeted and uses its own validated order. Do not infer full-mix processing order from a treatment designed for an isolated vocal.
3. Compare restoration modes on difficult material

4. Master only after the repair decision
Loudness, tonal balance, stereo width, and limiting belong at the end. Mastering an untreated metallic edge can make it more prominent and harder to judge. Once the texture is acceptable, use Finalize or a DAW workflow described in our Suno mastering guide.
What this workflow cannot promise
Restoration estimates plausible detail; it does not recover a hidden perfect master. Hard clipping, distorted source vocals, over-busy arrangements, and reverb printed into the mix may remain audible. Heavy denoising can also remove breath, cymbal decay, or ambience along with the unwanted texture.
That is why a synchronized before-and-after check matters. Listen at the same passage, switch repeatedly, and stop when the trade-off becomes worse than the original fault. A subtler result that preserves the performance is often more useful than the most aggressively “clean” result.
Prevent extra haze on the way to release
- Keep one untouched source download and branch every experiment from it.
- Export losslessly between cleanup, restoration, and mastering stages.
- Avoid boosting the air band before deciding whether it contains music or haze.
- Check the chorus and outro, not only a clean ten-second intro.
- Compare on headphones and ordinary speakers before committing the final master.
